Our grocery expense seems to be outrageous. I also consider cleaning supplies, toiletries, pet food and the like to be considered part of our grocery bill. My dh says I should buy food alone at the grocery store and buy this other stuff elsewhere because only food should be considered part of the grocery bill. Why would I go to a seperate store to get these things when they are right in the next aisle? (unless of course if its cheaper elsewhere. at this point I might consider it) Do you count these things as part of your grocery bill and how much do you typically spend per month? I'm just trying to find out if I'm managing the grocery budget as badly as dh makes me feel I am or is the cost of food these days just that expensive.
We're a family of six, and we try to coupon when we can, also I pre-plan all our meals and buy some items in bulk so we reduce our trips to the store.
I would say on average we spend around 250-300 a month. We have a few expensive months where I run out of staple items or need to purchase soaps and such which cost me between 400-500.
I'd love to cut back, we are only a family of 3 + dog, but I just haven't prioritized it yet.
Lets see probably including everything, about $800/month. Its totally crazy, and ive dont some research and from what i can see if we were to become a member of our local Bulk members only store, we wouldn't save all that much considering we would have to travel extra distance to get there. If only i had the extra time i would grow myself and huge garden and fill it with everything from fruits , herbs and veggies and then freeze and can everything come harvest time, but then i would need a couple cows, pigs and chickens...... however with my schedule and the kids schedule and my hubbys schedule.. it wouldnt work very well, so yea about $800 a month.
