God knows when you don't tip...

Cheap people suck! Come on ladies! you all know that less than 20% is just not cool! Having been in the service industry for almost 20 years it still surprises me daily that people do not  know this. Just today i saw an Oprah rerun where she proclaimed that 10% is acceptable. NOT!!!!! BAD OPRAH!!! maybe you don't realize this but that server that just waited on you does not get to keep the entire tip that you just gave them, most have to tip bartenders, bussers and hostesses up to 40% of their tips. please take consideration. If you are unhappy with your service or your meal or whatever please let your server know. most of us will do what we can to make sure you leave happy! and please know that if  you leave without tipping we have to claim a percentage of your bill on our taxes, so if you leave without tipping, we have to pay out of our pockets to wait on you.  please, if you don't have enough money to leave a 20% tip then you don't have enough money to eat out. Tell your husbands!!!

Exactly.

Quoting the3Rs:

Tipping is NOT a requirement.  It is a bonus.  You have to EARN your bonus.  Don't like it?  Don't be a waitress.  You have no right to tell me what I can or can't do with MY hard earned money.  You have no right to tell others whether or not they should go out to eat.

Having said that, I actually DO tip 20% - IF I felt the service warranted it.  There have only been 2 or 3 times that the service did NOT warrant it.  One of those times I didn't tip at all, and the other two I tipped very little.  That is my RIGHT as a patron...to tip what they deserved - and yes I did complain.

The whole tone of the OP is that of a self-entitled A** and with that attitude I'm not surprised they're not getting tips.

So now you are demanding 20% as a minimum?

Change jobs. Your industry cannot keep upping the minimum. Waitresses used to be happy with 15%, 18%, it just keeps going up. Just because I can afford to tip you 20% doesn't mean I have to simply because you say so. Unless my waitress goes above and beyond she is not getting over 15%.

i think that you should just be happy to get anything.. i know what you mean and all, but you should never expect ppl to do something .. you will always be disappointed if you live like someone owes you!! sorry i have adult kids that have been working in the bus, for years now and my oldest says yes ppl should but she will take whatever.. i think as long as they give something its much better then nothing...

It's amazing what people feel they "deserve".

Quoting the3Rs: Don't exactly see how its rude and childish. its just the ugly truth. you must be the sort of person who doesnt leave a tip for petty reasons. i have never once spit in someone's food or anything of the sort but i know it happens and it has probably happened to you many times if y
ou are the sort of person who would order a huge meal and not leave a tip just to be spiteful. if I knew who you were i would purposely give you bad service and then really show you what rude and childish can be. and then as you sat down to eat your huge fatass meal you would be left wondering...did she spit in it? did she drop it? whats wrong with this steak? good luck to next time you go out to eat......god knows

This comment completely negated your argument - and if I knew who you were I'd intentionally get you as my server, order a huge meal & leave no tip. I mean, how rude & childish can you be?!?!

Quoting chiquitamama80:

Besides...why would you want to mess with someone who is handling your food? to me that is just plain stupidity...

Yep people who dont tip are generally assholes.
If you don't have enough money to tip, don't eat out. It is not a right, and no you don't "deserve it". Being waited on is a purchase of service, whether they firce it or not. You know damn well you are supposed to tip.
If your service is bad, speak up. Why would you sit around and tolerate poor service?
Tip people. There is no excuse.

You are a good woman..thanks for appreciating the hard work that we put into

Quoting the3Rs:Guess what..tipping is a requirement if you want good service. its part of the deal of going out you pay for the service. we don't go to work happily awaiting customers so we can bring you margaritas and enchiladas for our health. we perform a service for you and its only fair to pay for it. if ive no right to tell you what to do with your money, you certainly have no right to tell me what to be. i am very good at what i do and make a decent living doing it. My point wasn't to say that you should pay for bad service...its that you should tip appropriately for good service and if you leave 20% then good for you.

Quoting Firewoman33: Well if you were in the industry then you should know that most of us don't get a salary. my hourly wage is 2.25 an hour. my paycheck every week is zero dollars. the tips aren't a bonus..its all i get paid, the only money that i bring home.

Yep. Plus 20% is supposed to be for GOOD service. 15% for average and so on. I was also in the service industry. It is a bonus, not part of your salary.
