shrugging I guess I really don't pay attention but can someone please explain to me what it means when people write BUMP on a post? Is it a good or bad thing or neither?

So what does it mean when people say they are "bumping" their status? I saw someone posted that and everyone was posting bump a bunch but there was no question. It confused me...
