Kiddos (What do you think of the term?)

My mom surprized me when she said she thought I was being disrespectful to my kids by calling them kiddos in public places like facebook (which isn't really public cause I have it just set to friends, but that's a different subject).  I told her people in my generation use it all the time and it's just a term of endearment.  She later said after our conversation she heard it everywhere, so maybe I'm right, but she thinks it may just be a southern thing (we both live in Texas but neither of us are from there).

So, what do you think of the term kiddo.  Do you use it?  Love it/hate it?  Is it just a southern thing or is it used all over?

Thanks so much to everyone who responded.  :-)

I'm in Texas and say "my kiddos" or "our kiddos" all the time.

I'm from WV and I say it all the time. What's disrespectful about it?

4 moms liked this

I don't usually say it but there isn't anything wrong with it.

I call my children "My Minions".

We use it all the time. I don't see what the big deal is. I live in NM but was born and raised in TX.

I say it often, altho people who use the term for ME! depends on the person if I'm ok with it. one coworker calls me Kiddo and I'm ok with it, but others have and it annoys me to no end, but I think that's really just the person and anything they alled me would annoy me! LOL Oh and I'm in WA now, grew up in IL, it's not just a southern thing. DD plays an app called gogo kiddo

I don't say it, but not because it's offensive. I usually just say brats...lol

It's not a term I use, but I don't see anything wrong with it.

I don't use the terms. Not because I find it offensive. I normally call them my minis.
