Disc Fragment/Herniated Disc... Did you have Surgery?

I just found out I have a Disc fragment/herniated disc with a sac on my L5... I'm 32 years old and really not interested in having surgery. I have read in a few places on the internet that it can heal itself over time??? But I do have numbness in my foot and leg which makes me nervous because I don't want to have nerve damage. I will be going to a spine specialist in about two weeks but I was wondering what your story was? Did you have surgery? If you did have surgery did you recover completely? Did it heal on it's own? Thank you for sharing:)

I have herniated/bulging disc L5.& Spinal Stenosis. It was pushing on my spinal cord, closing it off. My left side, leg was numb, it was so bad I had to use crutches to walk & a wheel chair. I went to specialist they wanted to do surgery, they said they would make a small incision and cut out the bulging disc. Well I was getting ready to have surgery, they told me I was pregnant, so it was put on hold. When I got pregnant all my numbness & pain went away. I haven't had anymore problems. So I guess it healed on it's own.

DH had a herniated disc but with some chiropractic care it healed. His dad did the surgery and ended up disabled for life. I've heard more than one person say it wasn't worth it.

I had a herniated disc and did 6 months of physical therapy. It is 85% better. I had a little pain a few months ago after I went with dd to a trampoline party (not the smartest thing I have ever done, but I totally forgot about my back).
