For us its part of the holiday. We go to my Grandparents house every year for Christmas eve and then come home. We let our son open one present, read the Night Before Christmas, and then set out the milk and cookies (carrots for the reindeer) for Santa. I'm 31 and all of my grandparents are still living so our Christmas is spread out over a week or more.

Yes it's absolutely a holiday in my eyes. That's when the church services are held and we celebrate the holiday with either DH's family or mine on Christmas Eve (we alternate Christmas Eve and Christmas Day with different sides of the family each year)

Yes when I was growing up Christmas eve is when we would have a big dinner and open our presents. Then on Christmas day we would go to church and then to my uncle's house. Now we alternate Christmas eve between my family and dh's dad's house.

In our home it certainly is, and Christmas Eve is probably even more important to us than Christmas day.
