Am I a mean mom?

So for two days I have told my 11 year old daughter to do the dishes. There wasn't many either day. This is her one chore and not even every day. Most days I do them. But for two years I have threatened her that if she doesn't do them when told her to I will take every dish out of the cabinets and she will wash them all. So today I did that. Does this make me mean? My father did it to me. I think its only fair. There are 8 people in my house I think everyone should help out. Bash if you feel like you must, however I do not think it will change my mind. She needs to learn to respect what I say. Right?

My parents did the same to me, and I've only had to do it once to my eldest son when he was a teen. The younger kids saw it and didn't want to have to do it. You are doing a good thing by sticking to your guns, and it's a good lesson for your daughter to learn. WTG!!

This is what I was thinking!  I randomly pull some rarely used dishes out of the cabinets and wash them (I call it "obscure dish day") and you are just having your daughter make all your dishes sparkling clean!

Your rules, your consequence when rules are broken. Hopefully she'll remember all the dishes she had to do and complete them when asked to next time.

Great punishment! That's a very positive method in my opinion. Better than my parents, they would hit my siblings and I. My parents were very "hands on" when it came to raising us. Your way is something I would do, I love it :-)
