Kunzite is a very young gemstone. It was not until 1902 that the New York jeweller and gemstone specialist George Frederick Kunz (1856 - 1932) became the first person to give a comprehensive description of this stone, which had just been discovered in California. And since newly discovered gemstones are usually given the name of their discoverer or patron, this new pale pink discovery was called 'kunzite'.
Also known by the name Spodumene.
Kunzite has a unique property called triboluminescence. Triboluminescence is a property of a gemstone which enables it to absorb light and display a brief flash of light in the dark. Because of this property, Kunzite had been prized by Gem Therapists.
Kunzite is believed to align all chakras, removing energy blockages. A pendulum of Kunzite is often used to help pinpoint energy blockages. (This technique is called pendulum dowsing.) That makes it a very powerful healing gemstone. The yellow variety of Kunzite called Triphane is especially noted for this property.
Pink Kunzite is considered a major gemstone of love. It improves self-love, and enables unconditional love of others. Pink Kunzite also is an important gem for emotional support. It brings your mind and your emotions in sync. It provides gentleness and improved communication in love relationships.
Kunzite is recommended by natural healers for bone and spinal cord problems. It is also believed to help those suffering from hearing loss, and ear canal disorders. Often used as a gemstone for increasing fertility.
