no, no i'm not a troll. really i'm not. i loved the game so much. i only started when BC came out and lvled my little main diligently in chants and tailoring and played the auction game, scanning for hours and then farming the mats that paid and then spent my earnings on mats for my own profs, and selling the chants and tailored items. i did rather well.
then my partner grew bored (we both had reached 70) and decided to try new MMORPGs like Warhammer and Aion and i went along with him. one day when i checked my emails, i noticed that my inbox had sudenly been emptied. i didn't think much of it at the time. but the next month i recieved notices from WoW that someone had been using my main illlegally. i called customer service and found out someone had hacked the account and ebayed it. i locked it down, changed the password and then started playing it again because Aion sucked so bad.
i bought the deathknight expansion and played them a bit, but found them too overpowerd and not much of a challenge. i made some new toons and noticed they lvled absurdly fast as well...again, no challenge. then i hit the auction house. why on earth wouldn't my chanted felcloth robes sell for more than twelve gold? i soon found out: Heritage Armor.
the addition of Heritage Armor sucked the WoW economy into tailspin. the armor is easily aquired form BGing and Dungeoning, everyone said. and it binds to your account so you can pass it down to your alts. it is overpowered and no one wants the crafted stuff that used to sell for 25 to 50 gold on the auctions anymore. the entire focus of the game seems to have shifted to honor grinding. there's very little exploration or crafting, except for the endgame tiers of crafting. bleah. i find the honor grind to be repetitious and dull. die, rez, pew-pew, die, rez, pew-pew and so on. premades make me want to barf, and dungeons make me yawn.
and don't get me started on GS! when did Blizz slip that little gem in? if you don't spend your time grinding, then people can tell at a glance and don't even want to see you in their raid. i dungeoned just fine (not a single rez and the least healing in the group by virtue of handling my aggro with skill, Sugarplums) and i was using the BARE minimum for GS. pffft.
there's no skill anymore with WoW. it's all Heritage Armor, PVP, and GS now. i tried to play with a few old guildies, but they seemed to all have the GS grind fever and kept telling me to stop crafting, selling on auction and go grind honor. ick. i mean, come on, everyone knows that when Cataclysm comes out this fall, the greens that drop from the new area junk mob will have a better GS than the purples they all were grinding honor for all these months. why work so hard for something that ends up as vendor trash or fodder for a DE mat? it happens with every single Blizz expansion!
i have given up for the time being on WoW, but i will be going back when Cataclysm comes out, if only just to ride around Azeroth and sightsee. maybe i'll make a goblin or two, but i doubt it will hold my interest for more than a few weeks unless Blizz decides to do away with GS which i believe will never happen.
it's a shame, because, although my partner says he hates the graphics, those chunky pixelated cartoonish graphics were one of my favorite things about the game. and i have yet to find another game that has the same style graphics.
i currently am playing Lotro. when i tried the trial account a year or so ago, i was unimpressed. but they updated the graphics and now you get rays of light, moving water, reflections of moving clouds on moving water, with consistant shadows and so on. the quests are okay and i have yet to find a crafting type i like that pays well on auction. but i rather like the Farming craft...prosaic and rewarding...sort of like what i imagine my mother's Farmville game she is so addicted to must be like.
anyway, who else is disgusted with Heritage Armor and GS? or am i alone in the way i feel?
You are far from alone. I use the gearscore addon for my own character, but that is all. I hate seeing "Fresh ICC 10, 5K+ GS required, PST Role and Spec!" spammed in trade. Honestly, people are so over geared for most raids (except ICC) that it is just a way to make sure you can speed run the thing and get out asap. Skill will always win out over GS...any nub can get carried by a guild to high tier gear and not have a clue how to play their character.
It is sad that you left over the heirloom gear though. It has been helpful in easing some of the grind on my lower alts. I don't bg..never been big into PvP, but I hear that heirloom geared players are op in their brackets. The recent patch kind of killed gear score for now though. We are all on a level playing field with the new 31 point talent trees, revamped spells, new set up on stats, etc.. Maybe you can come back and check it out for a few days while we are all learning again?

what server do you play on and allie or horde? i might roll a toon there. it depends on DF's budget this week. he just bought us tickets for Hallowscream at Busch Gardens.

well, i checked it out and the patch really DOES level things a bit! i even got my fiance playing again. he lvled to 75 (he takes his time) and we really are enjoying the cataclysm prelaunch events!
since my fiance only plays one toon, i haven't done much with my alts on the other servers, though. i'm still hanging around on Stormrage grabbing purples left and right. sockets are still a major pain in the butt, though.
