My sisters baby cant breath at night and is just miserable with all the snot poor out at all times. Now it's turning into a cough. I gave my son benadryl at 4 months. What do you guys think

We had to take dd to the dr today for a rash and I asked about giving her benadryl but the dr said if they are under 4 they shouldn't take benadryl at all. They told me that alot of infant deaths have been associated with it. Benadryl makes them sleepy and sometimes with cold they stop breathing. I would not recommend it at all.
