Okay so we have been home since friday and before they sent us home they checked to see if there was any signs of jaundice and her number was 8. well yesterday we went to the dr for a firts dr appt and he tought she had jaundice but then she cried and he said her yellowness went away . well this morning i woke up and her eyes were yellow and it was going all the way down to her knees in yellow. so i took her to the ER and found out her level have risen and it was a 14.7. i know it's common but i have never dealt with this. like how long it last and etc. so that has been my 6 day of joy

My daughter had it really bad when she was a newborn. They found it when we were in the hosiptal and she was sent home with a biliblanket or watever they are called. It took about a wk or so for it to completly go away. You just need to push the fluids, and sunlight helps! Im sure your baby will be fine.

My son is 5 days old and he isn't showing high levels, but I am letting him sleep near the window.  Sunlight (indirect) should help.  Also feeding a lot.  I am breastfeeding, but I was told to supplement just a small amount of formula just to get him to flush out any chance of jaundice.  Its so annoying isn't it?

The smaller of my twins still looks a little yellow to me, but I don't know how much of that is jaundice and how much of it is his itty bitty size. Both my boys eyes look a little foggy in the whites, but my pediatricians aren't concerned. It's pretty normal for them to be jaundices when they are first born, but I don't know how long it typically lasts, 5 days doesn't seem long though seeing as how it can take up to that long for your milk to fully come in. The solutions are as other mommies have said, fluids (breastmilk or formula) and sunlight. If it doesn't reslove then you'd be prescribed a bilirubin blanket.

update: we went into her DRs yesterday and he came back and told us that he wasn't concern because she was at the peak and it was coming down. he did seem a little irrated with the ER becasur they told us to but her in the light for an hour and he said to do it for 15mins because of a sun burn could happen. She eating really well and sleep through the night already but i set a alarm to feed her.( i don't want to her be starving when she wakes.)

My son had jaundice pretty bad when he was born in 2003. We went through it for about a week or so and now my daughter has it just a tad. It is no biggie, I think like 50-60% of babies get it. Just make sure she gets plenty to eat, it will flush it out and you can strip her down and put her in front of a big window or glass door where sunlight comes in and that will help too.
