Does anyone have one of these? I adopted a 7yr old a few months ago about the same time we got a rescue puppy. This Ig is HUGE!! He's really sweet but aggressive with the dogs. My big concern is his face rubbing. Any thoughts out there? We've changed all the wire they had on the cage and that does seem to have helped some.confused

It's awesome to know someone else owns one of these...our lady is Hunny.

She rubs her face when she sheds skin.  It takes awhile for that skin to shed...it's not as easy to reach. Spray water on him (we use a small spray bottle of just plain water) and that seems to offer some comfort.

They have wonderfully long lifespans...and they grow every time they shed skin so don't be surprised if you are finding new places for your ig to live comfortably. My husband is in the process of making an enclosure from floor to ceiling for Hunny. At least two levels because iguanas love to climb...ohh and my husband says JUMP...they can really JUMP...She jumped from her cage, when my husband went to clean it and was on top of our curtain rod on top of our window before he could blink!

In the beginning when I met my husband hunny had an aggressive side. Apparently his ex girlfriends loved to tap her cage all the time. NOT COOL! I would softly rub the front of her cage in circles...like I would rub my husband's back...and I watched as she began to lift her head as I was doing it. As she has done in this photo. In this photo however, her cage had just been cleaned and my husband had petted her like a cat. She actually started doing that after having seen us pet our own cats...and really strange my American shorthair (bi-color) loves to sleep atop her cage, and hang out in the bathroom with her as my husband cleans her cage.

Her cage is homemade (chicken wire on top and plexiglass in the front.) Hubby said that you almost have to make your cage homemade because they grow so much and so often. She'll live 30 years if she sticks to a vegetarian diet...and she is already 15 now.

One last thing...about aggression with the dogs...he's probably scared and thinking he has to defend himself. My husband wants me to remind you that they do carry salmonella on their skin so be very careful as not to let your dogs lick or bite him. Other than that I'd say it's only been a few months...give him time to feel safe in your home.

We used to have a 4 1/2 foot long male.  He never rubbed his face before but like the other poster said, it could be because he is shedding his skin.

Thanks for the info!! Not many people get into these guys. We had one before that lived 11 yrs before she passed. Earthy was a she and never face rubbed. This one is a guy... I don't know if that makes a little difference to. Good luck with the cage. Ours is about that big and 2 levels. As far as the cage he seems happy. Keep in touch.high five
