When my cat is sitting on the floor in front of the wall and just staring at it, what on earth could he possibly be thinking? LOL!
When you have a special needs child, it is like floating in the ocean. You will have highs when you ride the top of the wave and move forward and lows when the wave crashes over you and sucks you back. As you are riding a low wave of sadness, frustration & disappointment, just keep in mind the next wave will take you back up and move you forward once more.

He's either watching a bug crawl around, or looking at a ghost! lol. seriously though, could he be hearing something inside the wall like a mouse maybe?
We had a racoon in our attic last winter and our cat would nearly climb the walls to chase the noise it heard.
Cats are such incredible predators, their senses so keen, they can actually hear many things we would never imagine hearing, for instance the electricity coursing through the wiring in the walls around us, even just a bug inside the walls. Add to that, the extra "Jacobson's Organ" they possess, notice when you see them "smelling/tasting" the air with their mouths slightly open, and you have an animal that can actually chemically sample the environment around them while hearing everyone's seperate heartbeat, over the white noise like electricity that we can't even hear...Amazing little critters wrapped up as cute lil furballs but actually perfect lttle killing machines, (that like to cuddle, lol). Couldn't have said it better myself :) My cats and dogs both do this sometimes. Their senses are much more keen than ours... He probably just hears something in the wall.
I believe your cat is working his cat power, the ability to walk through walls.
