Ok, so we have a cat that has well to put it bluntly, poopy issues.  He had to have his anal glands removed a little over a year ago, and has had problems ever since.  We've kept him shaved back there and wipe him clean every week.  It's not so much that he is pooping, but that he is like leaking small amounts of liquid.  It's not a constant thing, but it does happen SEVERAL times a day.  I have no idea what to do.  My dh has had enough and says we have no choice but to get rid of him, I DO NOT want to do that!  We've had him for 3.5 years, he's the friendliest cat we have by far (we have 5 total).  I need to know what to do!  Also he's been to the vet about this 4 times since his surgery, the last time was a month ago.  They said to keep him shaved and to clean his butt once a week with baby wipes, like we've been doing.  I don't know what to do, please help!!!!

We did take him to a different vet, they checked him for worms, and wiped his butt.  Other than that they said to do the same things our vet said to do...

There are a a few problems that can go wrong with the surgery. First, if the surgeon doesn't remove even the tiniest amount of the anal sac, it may form an absess and a tiny draining tract leading to the surface, this is called a fistual. The surgeon would have to go back in and remove the small amount of tissue remaining.

The other problem can be that the surgeon nicked or slightly damaged the sphincter muscle during the surgery, which isn't that difficult or uncommon as it's right there. The anus may lose sphincter tone and may not be able to retain stool and fecal incontinence may develop. Odds are good It may just need time to redevelop its strength but there is a small chance it it will never regain its full tone in which case it may have to be "helped" with cleaning for its life. I would like to point out that it should heal in time, that's why the vets continue to advise to keep it clean, they just want to keep it from becoming infected and give it time. Your little friend should be fine with some time and TLC. Good luck & see ya at Boomerslist.com

if you limit him to one room that has vinly  flooring     then he might only drip in one room but a different vet might help
