I got him from a lady here on base a few months ago. But I've been noticing that he dose not chew his food. At all. No matter if it's soft or hard, he just swollows it whole. To me this seems like a bad thing. Is there a way to get him to actually chew his food?
That doesnt sound like a good thing. I know my dogs will do that occassionally with a hotdog or treat, but I believe gulping down the food can cause bloat in a dog. If you have another dog, he might be trying to eat quickly before the other one can get to it, so you might try seperating the dogs when they eat. Also You might try giving him smaller amounts at a time or buy him a slow feeding bowl. I havent tried one of the bowls so dont know how well they work. If you go to Amazon.com, there are several different types of these bowls and you can read the reviews that people post. I am not positive slowing his eating down will make him chew the food, but it seems like it would help.

It is actually perfectly normal for dogs not to chew their food (not saying its good or bad), but you can try the special bowls or you can just use a cookie sheet and spread the food out and this should slow him down.
