My kids just seen my dog get hit and die

How do I confert them after something like that? They cryed for a bit now I have them distracted playin games and coloring. What else can I do or expect after something like this

Wow that's sad, when our pup passed away it was on different circumstances, but my parents explained to me that things like this happen in a very age appropriate manner. I'm sorry this happened, I hope your family gets through this time

We sort of went through this.


Don't be afraid to bring up the subject of your dog.  If they say they miss the dog, say you miss the dog too.  Be prepared for their questions, did he hurt?  will he come back?  can we get another dog?  Does he miss us?  stuff like that.


If they cry, comfort them.  Talk about happy things with the dog.  silly things he did, his favorite spot to sleep.  and when they've calmed down (try to not feed into it) redirect them, like maybe ask them to draw a picture of the dog in his favorite place to sleep.
