Hello all...New to group and have some questions for all of you. First of all it is not official that my son had a stroke, but I came upon some information recently that has me wondering if he did. First I will give a brief history to a long situation! My son was born at 29 weeks gestation due to a placental abruption. Very touch and go. He came home 6 months later still on oxygen and apnea monitors. His first doc appointment after leaving the hopital, the doctor informed me that he had bells palsy due to a droopy right side of his face. I took his work for it. He is 8 now and his whole right side of face is still paralyzed. Bells palsy is supposed to fix itself. That is clue number one. Now, for his whole 8 years we have been so frustrated because he was not "normal". Normal in the sense that things seem awkward for him. He has a hard time with everyday social things such as how to communicate different things. He is impulsive and has had a few behavior issues. Now, I was doing a research paper the other week on stroke and so many things stuck out to me. For one the paralysis on his right side, and other complications of stroke sounded just like him. The one thing that stuck out the most is it stated "cannot express thought into words" also "impulsivity", and "behavior issues". So this has me really wondering. We have been to doctor to doctor discussing behavioral and psychiatric issues for most or his life with very little help or resolution. I wonder if its because there really isn't a psychiatric problem. We have thought of autism with him, adhd, bipolar ( my son claimed to hear voices last year and is now on meds for it, I still dont know if its actually "voices" or what my then 7 year old thought it was). I'm sure there still could be ADHD or what not since it is on both sides of his family, but I wonder if the main issue could be stroke. It seems to add up. IDK! what do you all think since you all are experienced with children that have suffered with a stroke? I definately need to consult his doctor with this, because we could have wasted so much time and frustration with psychiatric issues and missing what was really wrong.

Thanks for reading...Cindy

 Hi,

Has your son ever had a MRI? That's the type of test that was able to show my daughters stroke. Does your son have weakness on one side of his body? Maybe hand/arm/foot or leg or all? Does or has he been seen by a Neurologist?
