Hello, this is my first time here. my 14yr old son had a stroke on april 22,2011
I was not home when it started he tried calling me but could not ge the words out so I rushed home we brought him to the hospital after being there for awhile the dr decided my son had migraines and sent us home even though my friend who was with us mention that he has all the symptoms of a stroke and the dr response was that he wis not wasting his time looking into that it's impossible fora 14 yr old to have a stroke so we got home ate lunch and then he was asking things that made no sense so brought him back and the started him on seizure mess admitted him to see how he handled the meds finally the next day they did a MRI on him and the dr called usin toThat dreaded room that you get bad news and had informed us that or son had a stroke. They flew our son to ucsf and once there he received incredible care after a week there we got to go home. The hard part for us as parents is they never figured out why, and not knowing why is hard because I dont know what to protect him from.

I'm so sorry your family had to go through that. I'll never understand why doctors are not taught about childhood stroke. I get that it's relativly rare, but so are many other things that the do teach. Did you at least get to go back and tell that doctor how wrong he was and that his decision not to "Waste time" has cost your son valuable brain function? Do you have any recourse for that? It just seems so wrong. How is your son doing now?

Hello,
Thank you for your reply and support. I wrote a letter to the hospital I am still so angry that the felt my son did not deserve his time that I feel it's best I don't see that dr. My son is doing ok he is having problems feeling comfortable around his peers, that is just not how he has ever been he has always been confident in himself. My son is a perfectionist at everything he does especially his school and sports, since the stroke he is struggling with some of his subjects especially math. I'm hoping that this school year will help him get back on track and I'm getting him a appt to see somebody that he can talk with in hopes that he will feel comfortable around his friends again, hopefully when he goes in for a follow up he will b
Permitted to play baseball again he wants to play so badly.
Thanks again
