My name is Mary and I have a daughter named Amiyah. She just turn two in Sept of this year. She had a stroke when she was still in my womb, we most likely think it took place during my hours of labor. I was told she may never walk or talk and have many issues because the stroke damaged almost the entire Left side of her brain.Today she walking and saying quite a few words. It's very hard seeing your child struggle though things I'm sure every one else can relate to that. I'm a single mom trying to figure out how to deal with all of this, my biggest fear is the future for her. We can only take it day by day. I mostly affected her right arm and her right leg a little bit. I was just wanting to know if any one on here has a child that had their left brain damaged in a stroke and how they are coming along.
I'm sorry to hear about your lil girl.. Its so hard to see them struggle. My son had a stroke in the womb. and has brain damage on the left side of his brain. He is actually doing better than the doctors said he would. They told me the same things with mine, he won't talk, walk, etc etc, we go to a neurologist now every 6 months, it was every 3 months, but he is actually doing very well. he is walking, he is talking, (not talking as good as he should) he has weaker muscle tone on one side, but nothing that is noticeable to me. Do you have anything like Help Me Grow? They come and evaluate Jackson and help with any resources that we need at that time if any.
Yeah we see a neurologist every 6 months also and she goes to a special daycare called Kidz club they work on her therapy there, every oen who works there is a speicalized nurse. and she is part of Step head and first steps. Those two groups work together and give her awesome sessions. She has been in therapy since she was 2 months we wanted to make sure that she didn't fall to far behind. Her hand is what we have to work with the most, but she has been trying so hard to use it more often, it makes me feel like there is hope with it.
Hi there-- I'm sorry to hear that your daughter suffered a stroke. My daughter's stroke came when she was 3 days old, and she is four years old now. She is doing really well, but we she has needed a lot of support and interventions. Her stroke impacted the right side of her brain, so I am sorry to say that I can't speak to your questions about left-side issues. My daughter, Mairead, has a number of deficits including congitive, language, motor planning, gross motor, and social. She also has some sensory issues, but not severe. That said, she is a happy and otherwise healthy kid... we are very lucky. If you have a specific question I would be happy to try to answer. Good luck!
