Phenylketenuria (PKU) is an inherited metabollic disorder. People with PKU were born with a missing enzyme necessary to break down a certain part of protein called phenylalanine (PHE). The only known "cure" for it is a very strict diet that the carrier must maintain the rest of his/her life. The diet includes no diary, no meat, no poultry, no nuts, and many more foods that everybody else takes for granted. If a certain carrier does not follow their diet, he/she could become mentally retarded. Maybe you have PKU. Maybe you have a child with PKU. Maybe you're just somebody that knows somebody else who has PKU. Well, if you're anyone of these, this is the group for you. A place where you can ask questions, share stories and give advice.
