Hi. Lately Im obsessed with food preservation, so , I wanted to open up some topics. I will admit, Im a bit scared of canning. Im trying to learn more cause Im hoping to have a good amount of garden stuff this year, and I do freeze food, but I think one should always have a backup of other preserved food in the case of power outage. First, Ill tell you what I know about food preserving, then everyone else give your tips. As far as jelly and jam, I put parafin wax on top. I also like to grow sunflowers and toast the seeds, they keep for a long time and the chickens love em too. Peppers you can put in the oven on low, and they dry out. Greenbeans, you can string them on yarn, twine... and they dry out, then when you boil them they reconstitute. Those are some of my go to ideas besides freezing and canning. What do you guys do? Also, anyone know how a gal can make a tiny makeshift root cellar for herself?
