Boy or Girl?

Okay, so I just bought my first ferret (Bonkers) on January 4th, but I am thinking that he needs a friend. I think this time we will rescue one that needs a home. My question is should we get a boy or girl? Bonkers is male. Do they have problems with other males? Should I get a female? I don't know...Also, how do we introduce them to eachother? Do Ferrets normally get along with other Ferrets? Anything I should be concerned about? Thanks!

I would take your woozle when you pick out his friend. I have 5 -4 boys and a girl and they all get along. They all came seperately. But sometimes they have "personality conflicts" and will beat the crap out of each other. Wrestling is normal, but sometimes they really just don't get along. I don't think it matters if you get another boy or girl.

First, most ferrets do get along.  Let them out of the cage and play. Keep squirt bottle handy.  There will be wrestling, squeaking, hissing, etc., until one shows they are the BOSS.  The sooner you get another, the better.

Male or Female?  Males tend to be more calmer and like being held when they get older.  My females are always hyper, even into old age.  My Phoebe was hyper until the night she passed away!!  She was 14.2 years old, which is OLD.

Also, when I take in another ferret, I use the old rat trick. I take Vanilla Extract and put on the neck, base of tail and on the tummy.  Or something yummy, they have a tendency to lick first, then drag.  You'll see one dragging the other around by the neck. Don't worry only if there is blood shed. WHICH IS VERY RARE!!

I am guardian to 30 fuzzies and they all get along. Now and then there's an argument, but not often. Mine also are free roam in my home.

One more thing, Boys do get bigger then the females. Also, you can put them in a room (which neither one was in) and introduce them.  Like your bathroom, bathtub, etc.
