I was wondering what some of you do with your fuzzbutts when you go on vacation?? we are going to Las Vegas for 7 days in Sept! My dogs are going to my parents house (they are also watching my 2 boys) them keeping the ferrets isnt an option...
I think Im going to ask my sister to stop by my house daily to clean their litter box and feed and water them...but im afraid of them getting lonely...you know? My girls spend most all their time with my family and animals and then we'll all be gone for a week!
Also, what are your thoughts on automatic food dispensers? I was thinking of getting them 2 for their cage while we were gone (i just dont fully trust my sister honestly!!!) i was afraid maybe they would play with them and knock them over and then they wouldnt be able to get the next serving of food, but then i thought of that velcro stuff...i could stick some to the bottom of the cage and bottom of feeder and that should work...right?
lol...any help or adivce if helpful!

When I go away for more that a day or two, I take mine to the ferret shelter for them to watch. There are too many things that can happen to ferrets and they can get sick so quickly, I don't trust anyone that isn;t a ferret person to watch them. But if that isn;t an option for you I would make sure whomever is watching them knows to check to make sure they are all doing ok each day, not just see that they are sleeping or eating, but check to make sure they are running around and acting normally. Some ferrets get depressed and stop eating. As far as automatic feeders they never worked for me because the ferrets always tipped them over or somehow got the food out and made a big mess. I also tried the velcro for different things, and the ferrets always rip it up. Make sure you add an extra water bottle to the cage if you only have one, this way if they knock it out or it leaks or whatever there is a back up water bottle till your sister comes over.

I actually have 3 water bottles :) For days when they are being run through the dishwasher or being disinfected. I plan on filling all of em and placing them at the different levels of their cage (im too paranoid something will happen and they wont have access to water (my girls drink a LOT of water, lol)
I might try the feeder thing for awhile before we go and just see how they handle it...it might work for them, they're pretty good about not tearing things up in their cage...unless its a kids toy slipped through the bars...*glares at 2 yr old...*
ugh....i hope they eat and drink ok while we're gone!! I know Darby gets a little bit of seperation anxiety!! She gets very anxious when she sees us getting ready to leave the house!! ESPECIALLY when we grab the car keys!! she makes her weird "hissing/chirpping" sound until we come loe on her for a minute...now, i dont know if she does it now because she wants lovin or is actually feeling anxiety, but its so darn cute that im willing to give it...
we do have all their emergency contact stuff on the side of their cage, so if something is wrong, she knows who to call for what...
what kinds of shelters are the ferret ones? do they play with them?? what happens at them?
