Temple is to far in my opinion if you are stationed at Hood. Would have to leave so early to get to work. Never would see the hubby. We live off Clear Creek in Killeen. Its very close to Copperas Cove, and about 3 minutes from the gate. I get to see my hubby almost everyday for lunch. So I would hate to live to far. Belton is nice, but its a bit of a drive too. I know some people do live out there. Just my opinion that I would stay in the Copperas Cove, Killeen or Harker Heights areas.

I agree with PP. I actually work in Temple but live off the Clarke rd gate on post. I work 3 twelve hour shift a week. I have to be to work at 645 so I leave everyday at about 5:55 it take me about 45 min to get to temple so you have to think it would be about the same in the oppsite direction. Belton is just as far it is right before temple so only cutting a couple min off the time. Plus belton does not have any big name stores. Just somethings to think about.

Hi & welcome!

Have you ever considered building a house? I don't know what your price range is, but we used Jubilee Homes and they range from about $120,000-$145,000ish and they are very nicely built homes that include alot of upgrades for CHEAP! I highly recommend them personally :)

And if you need a real estate agent, we had a really awesome lady, she was VERY laid back and VERY knowledgable, she helped out so much :) If you'd like to look her up, her name is Heather McCourt. I can give you her number if you decide to use her, just ask :)

Well good luck in your house hunt!

Temple is a nice place to live and they have better shopping than Killeen.  I moved her about 2 years and we found our house in 2 days. (whew)  Our realtor is great, so if you don't have a realtor please let me know.

If you have any question, let me know I will be happy to help, I was in your shoes and I didn't have anyone to ask for advice.

Hello everyone! My name is Cassandra, and my family and I are PCSing to Ft Hood sometime in November! :-) I have 2 boys, ages 13 and 6. We are stationed at Ft. Wainwright, AK. I am looking forward to living in Texas again, as the 7 months of snow per year in Alaska gets old fast! I am a native Texan ( from Houston area), and I have visited Ft Hood area, but have never lived there. We live on post in Alaska, but we are looking to buy a home in the Ft Hood area. We will consider on post housing until we are sure. Any suggestions? We want to live close to post, otherwise I would consider some distance to neighboring cities. I have read good and bad about some of the areas, but I am still researching. I also home school the kiddos, but am considering some of the local schools as an alternative.

I look forward to getting to Texas and making new friends!  :-)

Thank you ladies. I have a realator looking at houses for us but I do not want my hubby to have to drive really far. WE live 15 mins from post here in WA and its nice he comes hom eevryday for lunch. I will have to tell her to look at places that are closer to the base
