Aloha Ladies, I'm a army wife of over 15 years. We were stationed there 12 years ago. I was hoping to get morincome more advice and information about the areas. We are going to sign up for on-post housing but wondering if it is a waste of time. We are allowed a 4bedroom in Patton. I only remember the O-club not the housing. I also see it has been privatized since we were there. I'm also worried about finding a school with so many choices it is daunting. I know my husband would like to live in Harker Heights.

It has been very informative reading all your posts ladies. I look forward to hearing from you. Aloha.

When I signed us up foron post housing. I had called the housing office before and talked to them about what I was looking for. They told me to show up at 0700 the following morning.  By 0800  we were assigned a house. We live in Wainwright which is across Tank Destroyer from Patton Park. If you have elementary age children, the school will be Meadows. It's a nice school our DD has been going there for 3 years now. There is a youth Center right across from the school.

Thank you so much for the information. I'll look on the greatschools.net for the info on the school. It all comes down if we can fit into the house but I won't know till we get there. I hope housing will letnus look. It's been so long since we were there and now the housing is private. So we are looking forward to coming back to the military community my husbands job here has been with the training facility and no people are stationed here. It's just my husband the CSM and a Sargent. Aloha Shawna

I forgot the housing site says 6 month wait list. Wow don't think we can wait. My husbands job will be there for 2 years then on to the next duty station. Shawna

Yes, the wait list is long. however, I have heard that if you show up to the housing office and let them know you are here and ready to move in. They will get you into a house ASAP. That's how it happened with us. It was either wait a month to move into Commanche III or take the one we are in now. There is also a NEW part of Patton Park. If you do get a house as soon as you are here, you can always look before you decide you want to take it. They just send you to the village community office. They give you an address and a key to take a look at what they have to offer. Then you go back and tell them yes or no. Also, I know that you should be able to see 3 different houses before you decide if the 1st isn't going to accomidate your family.

I know a few of my husbands soldiers. They went to the village community housing office for the village they wanted to live in and ASKED if they had anything available. They were set up in that village with a house they liked. That might also be an option for you and your husband to check out!

I hope that this helps some. :) and Welcome Back to the Great Grand and Glorious Place.. lol

Thank you for your comments. We have been looking online at the housing for rent and it looks very nice. As far as on post all I got to see was the layout. My husbands job will only be 2 years and on to another place. So I don't think we will be waiting around for housing. But I just wanted to know if the housing in Patton was worth looking at. I'd hate to pay the same on post and have a smaller home. Thanks again.
