Cassandra Peterson is the woman who originated the role of Elvira, Mistress of the Dark.  In the early 80s she hosted late-night horror movies on a Los Angeles TV station.  From there her career launched as the spokeswoman for all things spooky and campy.  She had her own TV show for a time and a merchandising blitz that covered everything from perfume to pinball machines.

The Elvira, Mistress of the Dark costume is one of the all-time best selling Halloween costumes for women.

  • Yeah I know and isn't she cool! I am telling my age now aren't I ? LOL I used to own a video store when she first became popular and had a lifesize cardboard display that I used every Halloween to help promote the Horror Movie section and to dress the store up for Halloween.

Would you believe someone offered me $1,350.00 for that thing and it was old and sunfaded from 12 years of use in my store! Your question is did I take the money? NO ! It was a very dedicated customer of mine and I was closing the store anyway....that particular customer probably put enough money in my store in those 12 years to have already bought that thing 20 times.

Even us witches have a heart! LOL
