Question about feeding

My daughter Jayci is 5 months old. She had an ng tube until she was almost 4 months, but she ate consistently by mouth for a week so her GI said we could take it out. ALmost immediately she started having trouble. It was like she was in pain, or like the sight of the bottle scared her. Now she's on ranitadine for reflux, but I cant get her to take it most of the time.  What she does take in doesnt seem to help. Does anyone else have these problems? Do your kids refuse to eat?

Thanks,

Brittany

Oh children. They make baby steps forward and then baby steps back. It can be frustrating. I would definitely talk to her doctor about it and see if they can give you some pointers on what to do. You said she was taking the bottle while she had the NG tube in? But now that it's out she doesn't want it? That sounds like something my kids would do. LOL  I know ranitadine can be hard to give because I don't think it tastes very good. I only had to give it to my son once but it was definitely a battle. But then it did help. Maybe you could get it flavored?

I say if she really really starts to not eat take her in to het her NG back in. I know it sucks...You would be surprised on how what little she get's does help...Maybe when she had the feeding tube in she was used to that feeling and when it was taken out she felt wierd...Justw ork with her and feed her whenever she wants. Poor thing...When you feed her make sure she is elevated and elevated for a long time after that. My daughter had awful reflux... Is the syringe you use small or one of the fat ones...Get the really narrow ones so you can stick it down the side of her cheek...Do it when she is hungry too. I hope she starts eating!!!  =)  Oh and you never know it may be the bottle she doesn't like...Goodluck.

Oh and her throat may hurt because they took out the tube....She may actually be in a little pain...Give her some tylenol. If she'll swallow it.

thanks you guys for replying. i think her problem was too much input without enough output. weve been giving her a stool softener, and it seems to help alot.

Oh yeah! I totally forgot about that! My son had to use Senacot for a long time while he had his various feeding tubes. Aw, poor baby, glad things are working out for her now. :)
