I was wondering how many of you have or are making your own personal cookbook with all your family favorites in it?
My mother passed away when I was 22. She, IMO, was just the best cook in the world! Unfortunately, I did not get most of her recipes. They were never organized and most of them were in her head. She was one of those people that would tell you "A pinch of this and dash of that". I believe that I am a good cook but will never measure up to her. Anyway, I decided that I wanted my children to have my recipes that they liked when they are ready. So, I started making my own cookbook. It is nothing fancy. I ordered a binder that with a decorative front that says RECIPES on the front. I put the full page recipes in protective sheets an put them in the binder. I don't want my kids to WISH they had Mom's recipes and not be able to when I am gone. Sorry if this sounds morbid.
I have one that I started when my now husband and I move in together 8 years ago. His mother gave me a small one of things he liked when we got married. He took half the pages out and said I don't like any of that stuff, i just eat it because that what was made. I have it in a binder with sheet covers over them. It is getting bigger and bigger as time goes on.
actually I'm doing this recipe book in a scrapbook form for my sister who is getting married in aug 2012. My mom has already started emailing family recipes. I just haven't started it yet :(

Wish we had one.... a lot of family recipes were not ever written down and nothing was ever measured so most of it was lost, at least as far as my great-grandparents generation. We do have a number from my grandparents generation.
This is something I have been considering making many times but just have never started in on it. We have lost more recipes then I care to think about when my 2 aunts passed away 4yrs ago.
I use Gourmet Recipe Manager: http://grecipe-manager.sourceforge.net/ I backup the files in a email with all my email addresses.
We have one and I'm going to start working on copies and additions for other family members as well as my kids. I also lost my Mom almost 5 years ago now and she had some of them recipes like yours did with a pinch of this and a dash of that. We were blessed to know that she had a limited time left and so I picked as much of her brain as I could and forgot some but I know how you feel.
