Extended Family Cookbook for and by Crock Pot Moms

A couple of posts have mentioned putting together family cookbooks.  It has been noted that some family members leave this earth before they pass on those family recipes, others won't share, and still others either don't have any family or at least any family that cook.

Let us be each others' families.  Please post your best/your family's favorite crockpot recipes below.  Also if you have traditional oven/stove-top recipes that you are willing to share- please post the recipe names.  This way members can contact you one on one for those!

Thank you for sharing your family recipes with us!

I totally agree with you. My family is not into cooking and writing recipes so it is something that I am doing alone with and for my kids. my favorite chicken recipe Crockpot Jerk Chicken. It is not my own but I love it and will continue to use it.

Crockpot Jerk Chicken Recipe

  • 1 large onion, cut into 8 pieces
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger or 1 tablespoon minced crystallized ginger
  • 1/2 to 1 habanero pepper, seeded, deveined, and finely minced (wear gloves)
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground allspice
  • 2 tablespoons dry mustard
  • 1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons red wine or balsamic vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 cloves garlic, crushed and minced
  • 3 to 4 pounds chicken tenders

Combine onion and ginger in a food processor; process until finely chopped. Add remaining ingredients, except chicken, and pulse until well blended.

Place chicken in a 3 1/2- to 5-quart slow cooker and cover with sauce. Cover, set on low, and cook for 6 to 8 hours. or until chicken is tender (3 to 4 hours on high).
4 servings.

This recipe is not mine, but it is also in one of my cookbooks.

1 " cubed beef roast     I use different amts depending on people eating

1 envelope of onion soup mix

1 can mushroom soup    Add as you change the amt of beef

2 4oz cans of mushrooms

!6 oz of beef broth   I add more because we love gravy

Put all of above in crock pot and cook on high 4-5 hours or low for 10-12 hours. About 1 hour before serving add cornstarch and water to thicken the gravy. We serve mashed potatoes and a green veggie with this.

This is my mom's potato soup with rivelles (sp) added, mom never added those.

3# cubed potatoes

1 large onion diced

Enough water or chicken broth to cover potatoes and onion. When the water is starting to boiI add the rivils (sp).  For the rivils I have 2 cups of flour with salt added to taste and 4 eggs. mix till you have what is like soft homemade noodles. I drop this in to the hot by pinching off small pieces. I have also used Reams frozen noodles instead of making my own. When the potatoes and noodles are done add a stick of butter and a large (13oz) can of evaporated milk. When the soup is hot again, I thicken it with 1 heaping TBS of cornstarch and 2-3 TBS water. Serve and enjoy.
