Dear Parent,

I am writing to offer you and your child an opportunity to participate in a research study at the Hunter College Communication & Play Lab. This early intervention study is designed for toddlers between 16 and 30 months who show early signs of autism or show specific delays in communication. There is no charge to participate in this study.

About half the children and their mothers will be invited to participate in 12 home-based intervention sessions to facilitate the development of social and communication behaviors in toddlers.  As part of this program, we will take a close look at your child's behavior and find out what you can do to make play interactions more successful and gratifying.

The other half of children and their mothers will be invited to participate in four home-based training sessions on increasing social and emotional development.

If you are interested in learning more information about this study, please contact our Research Assistant, Kristen Berry, at (212) 772-5630 or playlab@hunter.cuny.edu. You may also visit our website at http://www.hunterplaylab.com.

Sincerely,

Dr. Michael Siller, Ph.D., Assistant Professor, and research staff
Hunter College Communication & Play Lab (Regional Center for Autism Spectrum Disorders at Hunter College affiliated)
