Hi everyone I'm new here so I'm not quite sure yet how this site works, but I had some concerns about my son Logan who  is 5 has been recently diagnosed with Autism PPD and I had two questiond for someone anyone? Logan had tubes put in his ear when he was two. They are starting to fall out currently and he has a appointment for a specialist, he also has hypersensitive senses and can not stand anything to be on or around his ears, if any one has experienced this what would be a good way to go, seeing as he has a great fear of anyone messing with his ears, and acts accordingly? I know they can yank the tubes the rest of the way out or they can do it surgically, with a child who has autism and this reaction what is the suggestion?

The other question I had also pretains to his tubes, what does anyone think about putting a second set of tubes in a child's ear, is it beneficial, has it caused any delays in hearing after the first set of tubes, or did the child progress on their own?

Well you should first go to a Dr. that has experience with Autism because one who doesn't understand may not have the patience and get frustrated and that will just set off more problems.  Your child will pick up on this!  They have a wondeful knack for this!  Our Dr. will take his time with the ear thing with our ASD'er and make it out as a game.  So they each take turns looking.  First the child then the Dr.  That may help.  A calming natured Dr. is the best.  If not, some speciality clinics will use what's called Nitrous Oxide (laughing gas like at the dentist) which when given makes them semi sleepy and then looking into the ear is less painful so to speak.  It is a very easy procedure that takes minutes and is harmless.

Tubes again??  Depends on how many ear infections they have after the tubes are out.  Sometimes you don't need them again.  Depends on the Dr. and his view.

Hope this help!

Thank You for the information. I will definitely take it into consideration. Logan had lot's of ear infections within six months, I had to switch providers to get him seen to have tubes put, while he is talking better, I believe this had a lot more to do with his speech therapist, then the tubes. The Doctor he seen for the tubes initially never told me wasn't allowed to get water in his ears, at all so I had no idea until I did some reading recently on getting the tubes taken out.  He sees the doctor today about what we need to do.  I perfer the least pain possible, for my "lil big man" he's been through enough. He's gotten his test results back for his work up I just haven't been able to see what they have determined with his stomach problems and his metal toxicity levels,  The tubes to me have been more hassle then their worth, his hypersensitivity to sounds and touch around his ears, didn't start occuring until after he had them put in, unless all the screaming and crying he did when he still a baby was part of the sensitivity of his senses. It is always great to meet other mom's and get their advice, because initially I am just starting to discover the ins and outs of ASD, that too has not been diagnosed, only observed by an integrative medicine doctor at initial observation of Logan's actions, that he does have some form of Autism.
