OK, so totally excited at the moment! Darrian has been on the Abilify for about a month now. We've seen AMAZING differences in his ability to understand. He's still hyper, as I think he always will be- he's just like "Tigger" from Winnie the Pooh.

That is just wonderful! God has blessed him. I would just love to witness something like that! He mirrors his mother's love. I can only imagine the tears of joy that must have brought. Thanks for sharing and God bless! Beth100
wow, I think i would cry if either one of my children with autism did that.
I was reading about how your son is hyper all the time.. I have one of those too. We use something called a SPIO, its not all that common outside our area but well know here for kids with both motor and sensory issues.. they are about $100 but when my son has his on I can feel my stress level go down.
his movement changes and so does his ability to focus... Some insurances will cover it! I don't work for Spio or with them at all.. just a parent with good results
That is wonderful. How old is he? Tried giving my son meds the other day, and it was murder. He cried all day. Even the school had issues with him that they never had.

He just turned 8 years old. This was the last medication in a list a mile long that we've tried. Some meds will make their behavior worse but that tells the doctor something too. Darrian's last medication was prozac (an anti-depressant) and he was TERRIBLE with it. Abilify is a bi-polar medication. This makes sense because if you give someone with bi-polar tendencies an anti-depressant, it takes away the depression side of it but that leaves the "manic" side: racing thoughts, impulsiveness, sleep distrubances, etc. Once he figured out the extreme reaction to anti-depressants, it became clear that my son was having racing thoughts= mainc depression or bipolar disorder, as it is called now. I don't know that I recommend medications to everyone because it doesn't help every child with autism and you should also know that the medication helps with a lot of the aspects we're dealing with but it does not "cure" autism. To date, there is no specific known cure that helps every child on the spectrum. Be wary of anyone who claims to have a "cure." I would also look into the herbal and natural stuff too. Darrian also is on the GFCF diet, takes fish oil, the B vitamins and a colon cleanser as needed. I believe it is the COMBINATION of these factors that is contributing to his improvements.
that is awesome i would have cried as well.. plus fight the need to pick him up and just hug and kiss on him.. dont want to interupt this HUGE milestone but dang the need is to great lol
