So our school is giving an Ipad for us to use for homeschooling/home use. The ST is dwl tons of apps today for us and we pick up on Monday. My son is 9 and functions like a 2yo. I am beyond excited to teach him how to better communicate with us besides his 1-2word utterances and echolalia. I have a youtube channel where I post how I homeschool, funny things my kids do ect. I want to post our journey with the Ipad and really really hope I will be posting progress. I want our videos to be helpful and insightful to other families.
- Is there a particular app that would be interesting to see tried out?
- Is there a certain skill based on your interest that would be good to see?
- Is there education things you would like to see?
Some I am thinking of:
- I really want him to tell me what he wants to eat, since he doesnt eat alot.
- He really needs to work on saying Hi to people, hope to find an app I can plug in names
- Schedule, hoping he might be more willing to complete tasks if he sees better what is next
- apps for sorting, reading, AND safety like phone address recall.
Mommy to Corbin (9-epilepsy,autism, add) Kayla (6) Collin (2), Wife to Ben-OT, and I love teaching- M.Ed Early Childhood. SAHM & Homeschooling. Come watch us at www.youtube.com/user/1212wright
And if she gets out of hand i take it away. She has learned a lot on it. She got her progress report from school yesterday and she has already completed her progress for the end of the year. So now they r working on a new plan for her
I hope you have as much success as we have had with it
Proloquo2go is absolutely the best assistive communicative app. It is loaded onto my son's IPAD from school that comes home from it, and in a few months he has become competent in using it, and goes to get it if he cannot be understood or his brain fog won't allow the words to transfer to his mouth. It is the powerful tool that will do all the you expressed that you are looking for.

It is expensive, so you should make the school district pay for it. If the IPAD belongs to them, so does the software that they purchase for it.
I really like it, and the IPAD can take photos and you can use them to customize the buttons on the program so that your son's own preferred people, pets, activites, foods and even toys are displayed as options for him to select and communicate about.
If you want to look at some other options:

i am thinking about getting my son an ipad he is almost 4 and autistic and very nonverbal do these really help
Try The Social Express . I see them advertised on a another autism site. Supposed to have apps for social situations.
