So my son is 14yrs and is pdd/nos and he is on Risperidone and has been since he was around 11yrs old. This is the only current med he is on.

For the last 6mths or so my son is fine all day & is active just like normal.Well @ the same time after he falls asleep @nite he wakes up complaining of a tummy ach.He will go through spats where he does puke for like 5 days in a row than he will go awhile of just tummy aches.Well i told his prescribing Doctor ( psychologist ) that he was doing this so he ordered blood test for everything and it all came back good.So he did OK for awhile and about 5 days or so ago he woke up getting sick and has every night but one...he just started school yesterday but has an appointment with Pediatrician Friday.Has anyone else had any problems with this with ANY of their kids or ones that are on same med as my son???? Advice??? I think I'm taking him to an after hours this eve....Thanks for reading i am worried.

Poor guy. Is he taking the medicine right before bed? Maybe try experimenting with it. Give it to him right after dinner instead of before bed so he'll have something on his stomach and will be awake for you to moniter? Good luck sweetie.

Thank you def something we can try,I'm also been doing dinner kind of late from summer hours so I'm thinking giving him time to settle his tummy and take med w/dinner instead of bedtime!! Thanks again Hun!

I agree with the above mom's advice on taking the med. with his food. If he doesn't have food in his stomach it could be making him upset....  It could also be that your son also has developed an intolerance to the medication and by throwing up it is his way of getting rid of it in his system?  Are you noticing any pattern with him throwing up?  Also, I'm wondering if he is having an allergic reaction to a food that he is eating, anything new?  A lot of kids with autism have a hard time digesting gluten and dairy products and are on the GFCF diet.  Many children do really well as the gluten and dairy products can cause upset stomachs as well.  I hope these ideas help, hoping he feels better soon!  ((HUGS))

I agree with the other moms but also could he be having conflict or be bullied at school or bus? Some times if something is happening emotionally it come out physically. What about his bowels? I know when my son is constipated it causes all kinds of havoc with the rest of his system.

I also agree w/them,all of this has crossed my DH & I mind, like stress, food allergy, dairy, gluten & bowles.I am just hoping someone else has been through this w/their pd/nos child or any child or maybe with that certain med he is on.He just started school Tue the 21st and LOVES it and besides when he has been picked on he just thought they was a friend,he thinks everyone is his friend.I don't think its that.I could be stress but idk??? And like i said in another post he does have some constipation. Oh and he did not have dairy yesterday that i know of and did not puke last night...cold have @ school but not sure.Thank you for your reply any info helps!!! Ill find out something Fri hopefully or at-least a start with a referral to someone who does know.

My son was on Risperidone about 2 years. He got very big and now eats compulsively so we switched to Haldol. I think you need to examine his diet. Gluten messes up lots of kids. Also make sure he doesn't eat anything heavy just before going to sleep. Hope he's better soon.

You might also look into reflux--particularly stress related reflux.  That would manifest mostly when he was laying down, which could explain the timing...

Yes! My son eats compulsively also!!! I mean the boy is constantly hungry and he will eat massive amounts of cheese!! The 1st Dr put him on it to gain weight and behavioral & other issues but i guess he has gained a little but he definitely burns it off fast anyhow. But thank you ill take you advise =)
