Hi,
I am a new member and am having a Fibroid removed on Wed. the 25th.  I have a HUGE fibroid that is 17.cm.  I look like I am 6 or 7 months pregnant.  I am in so much pain and discomfort I am looking forward to having it removed but I am nervous about the recovery time.  (AND THE PAIN, of the surgery)  I have 6 children.  5 still at home 17yrs.,10 yrs., 8yrs., 3yrs., and 2yrs.  My husband has taken a week off of work and my parents are coming to help.  My doctor has told me I will be in the hospital for 4 to 5 days.

I don't like being away from home and away from my children/family, any suggestions to help me while I am away to feel more connected to my world at home???

A digital camera! Have someone take pictures everyday and bring it to show you. Just random shots. NO posing! Just so you can see what home is like, that it's still there and they are fine. They will be fine. You just relax and get yourself taken care of. As many phone calls as possible and as many short visits as possible as well will help.

Hi-new here...but I just thought maybe hubby could bring the kids to visit and si before or after dinner...or bedtime? I have had multiple female surgeries and I know how it can just drain you. I hope it all goes well! Dee

The above suggestions are all great. I don't think I can really add to them, just wanted to add my sympathy, support and prayers.

Thank you ALL for your suggestions and prayers.  My surgery was a success and I am now healing.  Every other day my Husband brought the kids up.  The 1st visit was wonderful but with so many people I didn't get to see my kids as much, so the 2nd time and after, all the kids would stay with my oldest , 18, in the waiting area.  My husband would bring one in at a time or about 10 min.s.  It was nice to have that time with each and the kids liked it better too.
To keep them busy in the waiting room my husband brought the "FUN BAG" with him. The "FUN BAG" has been in or home for MANY yrs. and has new toys, games, books, snack, ect, in it, but it "hides" a lot so when we find it and bring it out they just love it.   The only problem was competeing with it.  Our 3yr. old saw me and hugged and kissed me and told me he loved me and then said "Daddy, Mommy got to see me, now can I go back and play?"
Kids are great!!!!!!!!!!
Sorry for the run on sentences...the pain pills are working overtime.
