I am sorry that your baby has the heart condition. This is very difficult for you and for her. You will have many things to learn and many challenges to overcome. I assume she is still an infant?
First thing I will tell you is that if Doctors said to stop breast feeding, you need to understand WHY. Is it :
1. because she is working too hard when she is at the breast, OR
2. because they don't feel the breast milk is right for her
My guess is that with a bad heart condition, your baby is in congestive heart failure. This happened with my daughter also. She has to work so hard just to breathe that she is burning up all her calories in the effort. As the weeks go by, she may lose weight or not gain any. This is very bad for her.
They can give her a feeding tube that can help her to get her milk, but without having to work so hard for it. Ask your doctor about it and ask the cardiologist.
There are also formulas and powders that can be added to her milk to give her extra nutrition. Ask them about this too.
I hope you'll post more after you see the Doctor. There are several of us out here that can give you some good advice and insight into your baby's health problems. I'll say a prayer for your baby.
