Ladies,

Last year was a very sad time for the Autism community.  We lost so many of our precious children due to drowning and today it saddens me to report that a 5 y/o from Wellington Fl has become another victim.

I beg and plead with each and every mother out there to please secure your homes.  Door and window alarms can be bought for a very reasonable price at your local Walgreens and it's worth the life that it will save!

Autistic Girl, 5, Found Dead In Pond

K-9 Units Lead Investigators To Girl's Body

UPDATED: 7:15 am EDT September 22, 2008
A 5-year-old Palm Beach County girl reported missing was found Sunday floating in a pond near her home.

The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office said Kaitlin Bacile was missing since Saturday night after she wandered away from her Wellington home.

Her father told a local television station that his daughter was autistic and unable to speak. He said she opened the door from the house to the garage and slipped out.

Sheriff's office K-9 units followed the scent of the little girl's blanket to find her in the pond.

Sadly we've heard far too many stories like that.

We live in an apartment and I make sure to have window guards. The door is always locked and we also have a sliding chain on the door. The chain is usually put on when everyone is home or if I'm alone with the kids, I'll close the chain when I go to the bathroom. If anyone moves it I hear it. But mine have not tried to escape since my son was about three years old. He tried it twice when I was in the hallway talking to neighbors. At the time I had no idea he knew how to  unlock the door! The poor thing thought he was alone in the apartment because Grandpa fell asleep. I still sometimes worry that out of nowhere one of them would decide to walk out the door, in the middle of the night, while I'm asleep. I don't know if I'm being silly, since they've never tried such a thing. But living in a house with many doors and more than one floor must be like a night mare to parents with young ones who like to wander on a regular basis.

Good luck to you all!

hugs
