Hi everyone. I am new to the group. I have a 3yr old son that was diagnosed in March this of year with autism and I have a 2yr old that is speech delayed. Both my boys are smart and funny and get into everything! They climb everything, I call my 2 yr old the super secret silent ninja cause he is that quiet when he knows he isn't supposed to get into things and he does anyways. My 3yr old is obsessed with straws. Everytime we go anywhere to get something for lunch or dinner, I always ask the gal in the drive thru window for two extra straws. I am constantly amazed at how much I learn from them, if only I had their energy. LoL.

LoL, I call my 2yr old Zachary, the super secret silent ninja cause he will always be in places he knows he isn't allowed in and he loves to get his hands on anything that squirts. Creams, lotions, toothpaste.....baby powder is the ultimate in fun for him.

And what is it about stripping the sheets and pillows off the bed? Does anyone else's kids do this? My boys will strip my bed to the mattress at least 7 or 8 times a day and move the mattress off the box springs! A 2 yr old an a 3 yr old! I wish I could get some industrial strength velcro to keep them from stripping and moving everything. LoL.

They sell sheet holders!  Remember those clips we wore on the back of baby-doll dresses, well the reasons our mom's giggled is they were covered sheet, or ironing board cover holders!  I was just visiting my mom and saw them in the laundry accessory section at Pamida, where they sell the mesh bags for delicate, cloths pins etc.  They are made to keep your sheets from slipping, maybe they will keep your sheets on!

Hi and welcome! I have 3 boys on the spectrum, yours sound a lot like my twins when they were younger. We called them "seek and destroy" LOL. Still do sometimes :)

I am new here too.  My 2 yr was diagnosed the past May.  It has been a whirlwind for us.  We are also in the military and I have to Thank God for that, because I don't know how we would pay for everything that he has to have or his therapy.  We are stationed in Hawaii and things are getting better.  He has a speech delay and sensory problems and is obessive about cars and trucks.  I am glad to hear from anyone that can offer in site.

I was getting a chuckle over some of the nicknames. I love the different personalities that are represented by these loving nicknames! I have a couple amusing nicknames that have been suggested for my daughter Cara. The first one was "Hurri-Cara" because just after I clean a room she comes through it and dumps everything I have picked up. Our house is in a perpetual state of mess. Recently we thought of "Stitch" from Lilo and Stitch. I've not actually seen the moview but I've seen some short snips and such. Cara is similar becuase when she is in a good mood she is happy and loving and cuddly and just a joy. And when she is in a bad mood - well, everyone just look out! The other one that came up recently was "Taz" because Cara has been spinning like crazy for the last few weeks. She clears space in the living room - including literally kicking the dog out and then just spins and spins and spins. She gets dizzy and falls down - often on toys or furniture - but it does faze her. She just gets up and starts spinnning again! Oh yeah. She's also been called a "Cara-ist" becuase of the disaster and chaos she can leave in her wake. One thing I have learned from this autism journey is that so many times I want to cry and I have to laugh instead because it is the only way to survive! Humor is good medicine. Whatever her nickname, Cara is adorable and sometimes scary! I always love her as my precious gift.

LoL, I am always amazed at how fearless my boys are! I think my heart has stopped more times than I can count at watching them in action. And yes, they are like whirling dervishes cause it doesn't matter what time I clean the house, they have it trashed five minutes later.....I can't help but laugh.

I tried those clips and they figured out how to undo them because they watched me do it when I changed the sheets on the bed. So I had to take those away cause they were trying to use them for sling-shots! LoL. I love my boys, but golly geez, I wish for industrial strength velcro wallpaper so that I can just stick them to the wall when they get too rambunctious.

My son Jacob will be 4 yrs old next month and his MAJOR obsession is the car from the Dukes of Hazard. I have searched through countless Hot Wheels and Matchbox cars to find ones that look similar in shape in color as the General Lee. And then I finally found some and now they have stopped making them! Wal-Mart also used to sell a bigger size model of it for $5, but they have stopped that too. I think we were the only ones buying the thing cause he would destroy them one by one when he would have meltdowns.
