Hi, my DD is 6 almost 7 and not sleeping through the night.  She never has, but before she would just come in our bed and fall right to sleep.  Now she wakes up comes in our bed and moves all over the place.  She tries to converse and can't settle down.  I'm 6 mo pregnant and so when I'm awakened I can't go back to sleep.  I'm so tired.  All her Dr. suggests is be consistent, have her go back to her own bed, but that doesn't work.

I kinda agree with the Dr, but there may be a reason she isn't sleeping well. My DS would go right off to sleep. 3-4 hours later (midnight) wake up & the hyperactivity would kick in. BUT, would jump in my bed and be fast asleep in minutes. So, we were firm about getting back into his own bed and had to address the root problem also.

Some things we did were: Low volume music, a glass of water by the bed, a night lite, a heavy blanket to weight him down, a body pillow for a feeling of security. Bascially took away every reason he ever had to leave his room. Now he gets up, goes to the restroom & gets right back in bed. He knows coming in Mom & Dad's room ain't gonna fly. We also had to start giving him something to help him sleep. We had 2 issues going on at the same time. That's what you have to determine. If your child can't sleep, no amount of consistency will fix that.

My son takes clonidine at bedtime & its a god send. Many ladies here swear on Melatonin which is a natural supplement. Food for thought.

We do the water, night light, and Clonidine.  The Clonidine helps her sleep, but doesn't keep her asleep.  I just wish therewere a way to have her sleep through the night.  I was thinking of having her do a sleep study.  I heard that lack of sleep can make a child have ADHD symptoms.  My husband has insomnia and I wonder if she just has that too.
