I have a son with ADHD

Ok I have a son that was tested for ADHD last march. I am a divorced mom and I told my ex he was bein tested and was started concerta and he is mad cuz he said the drs don't know what they r talkin about his son is fine. He only has our son on weekends and now wants a second opion on it. Well I have tried to explain to him and tell him it has really helped him in school and in gerenal butg he don't want to see it. He was not doin good in school he was in kindergarden and was gettin in trouble a lot gettin notes sent home not listen well he was placed on meds in march and within a week his grades and behavior changed. He went to his dad for the summer and was off meds which dr said was fine but I didn't agree with when he came back 10 weeks later he stated meds again and started school was gettin in trouble for a month so took him back and had to up his meds and finally got him back where he needed to be and is doin great. Gettin awards all the time for good behavior and grades r good...... now got to get his dad to see that his son has ADHD to understand what he is goin thur and its pretty bad that he keeps tell him son u don't need that med and my son tells him yes I do it helps me he is only 6.......

Wow that is tough... Can you get dad to go with you to the Dr? Probably part of the problem is dad is feeling shut out and helpless. He loves his boy and wants the best for him but he is outside looking in and this is one way to have some influence. What if you tried getting dad to sign him up for a sport and then being the one to take him and attend games. Maybe it would give him a focus other than the med question. As long as he is on concerta you can start and stop with out a problem but if it was intuniv or strattera that would not work out.
