My son got diagnosed with ADHD on october 13 2011 and he just got diagnosed with Pervasive Development Disorder on july 25 2012 and im not to sure what it is i have looked it up but i do not understand the meaning of it i dont know what to do or how to help my son if anyone has any suggestions please swing them my way.
There are some great groups on cafemom for autism spectrum disorder, aspergers, pdd-nos, etc.
I also feel my son is more than ADHD. He is probably mildly on the spectrum. But we don't have any other diagnosis at this time. But I have done a lot of reading on Sensory processing issues.
I don't know much about PDD but again the other groups could help you.
Oh yeah, Occupational Therapy and / or Speech Therapy are awesome.
Hi Lil_Momma, EmeraldLake has some good pointers about OT and SLP for your little guy. Sensory treatments are a good avenue to help him with development and a good website for you to find an OT who is certified in this area is: http://portal.wpspublish.com/portal/page?_pageid=53,83247&_dad=portal&_schema=PORTAL&certified=AK&row=0&id1=0&id2=1
PDD is a broad term that includes autism spectrum disorders, Rhett's, and several others. It might be that your son has symptoms that fit in general, but not a specific one. I don't know your son's age, but does he have an IEP or early intervention? If not, please consider that immediately because he can get OT and SLP services at pre-school/school/community. Also, an OT and SLP will evaluate your son's function and give you additional information that might help.
All the best and I hope this helps.
It is a form of Autism. My son was diagnosed with autism about a year ago. I don't know much about PDD itself but I know that my son does well with different therapies. He is currently in occupational and physical therapy. He was in speech therapy for several years. We also do brushings and compressions which are both helpful.
There is a couple of great groups on here that are very helpful and would recommend you check them out.
There are so many great therapies. Consider swimming, tumbling, OT, ST, PT, Vision Therapy, Listening Therapy, social skills therapy, horse back riding therapy, more natural diet..... I could go on and on
You just need to win the lotto to pay for it all. LOL
PDD doesn't have to be autism or anything specific. It is a fancy medical term for kids who have multiple learning and developmental issues. Having the diagnosis gives your son access to all sorts of educational and other services. Look up your school district to see what special education services are available. Schedule a meeting with your school so that you can have things in place before the school year starts. All of the stuff takes forever to get going. Search for a local parent group as they will know about resources in your area. I just found out about LISS (Low Intensity Support Services) in my area, which will pay for things like swimming lessons.
ty my son has had an iep for the last year and he is on one now for when school starts in August but i may have to revise it to have speech therapy
