For those who don't medicate...

I would like to know what type of strategies, tools you use with your child(ren) to keep them on track. I do not want to medicate and neither does my son. We now homeschool and take breaks as needed. Run around to release extra energy as needed, but I would like fresh ideas from you veterans. Thanks!

  1. My 7 year old was diagnosed nearly 1 year ago and he does not take medication. The strategies that work for him are: a consistent schedule. Before we leave home I write a lit of are activities for the day. Clear rules and consequences , limit his sugar and preservative intake, team sports, and positive reinforcement. Have a supportive system in place for yourself when you need a break, My son receives biweekly behavior medication therapy however it will end in a few weeks. The most important lesson that I have learned is for children with ADHD some form of symptoms will exist with or without medication and they will have great days and not so great ones but its ok.
