I finally decided to medicate my 5 year old with ADHD.  The doctor gave me a prescription for 5mg of Focalin to be given once a day.  I am scared to death to give it to him because I am afraid of negative side effects.  Does anyone have any experience with this medication?  TIA.

I think all of us who medicate have been exactly where you are today. Unfortunately, the only way you're going to know if it's right for your child is to give it to him. Just remember that 5 mg is a low dose and if he does have a side effect (from what I've seen anxiety, crying spells, non-stop talking) it will be out of his system by the end of the day and you don't have to give it to him again. My strong suggestion is to give it to him on the weekend so you can tell how it effects him all during the day.

Hope this help some!

Thank you for the advice!  I think I will try it on the weekend.  I'm hopeful and nervous at the same time.  But we are at the point where we just have to give it a shot.
