My son has adhd and mild tourettes. His doctor and I are thinking also maybe aspergers. He goes in for an evaluation for autism spectrum disorder in a couple months. My question is what exactly is done during the evaluation? I was told it will be 2 hours long. Just wondering what all is done.

I don't know about the testing.   But I sometimes wonder the same about my 8 yr old son.  My son has ADHD and sensory issues.

How old is your son?

I am sure there will be an in-depth questionnaire for you and the teacher to fill out.

Also, there are a few good autism / aspergers/ ASD groups on cafemom.   Those group members could probably answer your question best.

My son is 9. He will be 10 in August. We've already gone through the questionairre for me and his teacher. Then his doctor reviewed it and referred me to the specialist at a hospital that deals with this disorders. The evaluation is suppose to take 2 hours.

Thanks for sharing, brrmom.   Hope it all goes well.

Just remember, he is the same kid he was yesterday, whatever the diagnosis.  An accurate diagnosis will help you figure out his strengths and weaknesses.

My son is Autistic, when we had him tested they asked my husband and I a lot of questions concerning behavior, actions, likes, dislike, etc.  The also will do basically an IQ test with your son.  It does take about 2 hours and then you will undoubtly have to wait a couple of weeks for a full dx, and discription of the results.  It's really not a hard thing to do.  It can be stressful though due to the circumstances of why you are there.  Hang in there all will be good.
