I am always looking for better snack foods- I just don't like stuff like potato chips and candy! with that said, some of my favorites snacks are:

any fresh fruit. gimme gimme gimme

sliced apples and peanut butter or cheese

homemade sweet potato chips/fries (yeah, they are a little oily but a better option nutritionally than regular potato chips because sweet potatoes are chock full of fiber and nutrients, and you can control exactly how they're made)

edamame soybeans- buy 'em frozen, boil 'em for a couple minutes and just eat them out of the pod. they are delicious, satisfying, and they keep your hands busy so you don't eat as many as quickly.

nuts (some nuts can be high in fat like cashews, so maybe eat those in moderation, but other nuts, like almonds, are a safe choice)

Hi.  I am new here.

Here are my favorite snacks:

dry cereal (nutritious brands like Cascadian Farms, Kashi etc)
petite peas (I know, sounds crazy but in the afternoon I crave something and I cook some peas and they are very satisfying!   The kids will eat some with me too)
Pretzels dipped in peanut butter and jam
Soy chips (have good source of protein)
Fruit (apples, grapes, canalope, strawberries, oranges)

I remembered another snack i love: plain old boiled eggs. but they have to be made RIGHT, so I will share my super-secret perfect boiled egg method:

put a pot of salted water on to boil
when the water has reached a full boil, add the eggs
boil for exactly 11 minutes (for a medium sized pot with anywhere from 1-6 eggs in it)
when the timer goes off, IMMEDIATELY run the eggs under cold water- this will keep the yolk moist and bright yellow (instead of gross dry and green)

peel and enjoy! I like to eat them while they are still warm, the texture is great. if that's too plain, add a little salt, but they really don't need anything, nature did a great job designing the egg...

My favs are:
Plain yogurt w/ unsweetened peaches or pineapples
Good ole air popped popcorn (  I spray it w/ buttered flavored Pam or Canol and sprinkle w/ some Lite salt)
1/2 C.Cheerios w/ 1/4 c.  raisins and almonds- just eat them like a trail mix
I go for the low saturated fat/heart healthy stuff.

fruit is sweet, stick with fruit. make all-fruit smoothies, eat it fresh, eat it dried... even though fruit is high in sugar, it is way better to get sugar through fruit than any candy or baked goods because fruit is a perfect natural delivery system for it- the fiber slows the absorption of sugar to your blood so it's absorbed properly instead of in a huge unhealthy burst like refined sugar... plus fruit is full of a million good nutrients, fiber, vitamins and minerals and just tons of things i'm sure science hasn't even discovered yet...

basically, the human body is meant to eat fruit... not refined sugar. and fruit is soooooo good... i would choose a ripe peach over a slice of cake (almost) any day of the week.

I know I am not the only one who comes home from work STARVING, dinner hasn't been started, homework is already on the table to be checked, and that water I drank on the way home that will "fill me up" is a joke.  I am always looking for something fast because my willpower at 5:45pm is 0.  I buy the four pack "South Beach Living" cottage cheese, I have "40 Spice" hummus with snack size carrots, apples with serving size peanut butter.  Grapes and strawberries already washed.  Walnuts, and soy milk.  When I started dieting, I learned real quick what I eyeballed as serving size was double!  I like to have my snacks in a serving size container, so I won't go crazy.
