Hi my name is Kristine & I have suffered form Acne since my teens. My teens were horrible, kids can be so mean. I got on Acne medicine proscribe by a Derm. & it makes your face Red & a lot worse in order to get better. It was so disgusting. My own friends told me I made them sick & could not eat lunch with them. I sat in a corner on the floor & ate my lunch for months. I only had a few friends that supported me. When my face cleared up the boys were a call'n but revenge was sweet for me!
Now I am in my late 20's & am having problems with Redness. I am even getting Red dots & broken blood vessels on my face. I heard it could be from stress. I look like a Racoon with a Red face & White around my eyes. Peolple think I have a Sun Burn & was wearing Sunglasses! I'm not out in the sun that much at all!

Hi, my name is Johanna and I have suffered from acne since I was a teenager. I went to a dermatologist and it didn't seem to help and the cost is awful! My skin has always been very oily. I even get breakouts on my shoulders and upper back during the summertime because of the heat and sweating. I have a 14 year old son who is suffering from the same thing.

Hi.  I'm Erica.  I just turned 30.  I have dealt with acne since I was 16.  It's always been pretty bad.  When I was pregnant it was even worse.  I used OTCs in high school, without much improvement.  Then I tried Proactive.  It was just OK, but better than OTCs.  Tanning booths seemed work best, but I didn't want to use them too often.  While I was pregnant I couldn't really use anything.  I was so self concious!  I always have been.  After having my son, I finally went to a Dermatologist.  He gave me antibiotics, but I hated them!  Then he gave me Nicomide vitamins and Duac topical gel.  Both are tier 3 meds in my insurance and are $30 each, but they really do work with no side effects.  I can actually go out without makeup (although I prefer not to).

Hi, I just found this group and I am hoping you guys are still active! My name is Stephanie and I have been fighting acne most of my life. With each pregnancy it has seemed to get worse. I just had a baby 2 weeks ago and boy, I don't want to leave the house. This is the worst I have ever had acne.
I thought that in my 30's I would be done with this crap. I guess not. LOL
Anyways, I have tried Proactive(did nothing but make it worse), antibiotics(several kinds, still nothing), OTC products(again nothing). I'm kind of at a loss right now.
Well, It is nice to meet you all.

First, welcome!  That being said, AARRRGGGG!!!!  How frusterating!  I am thinking of going in to a dermatologist again because I am beyind out of control with the acne.  It has been 10 years since the last time I went!  I am hoping there is something they can do to help me, especially because I am in childbearing years, considering having another baby and therefore, NOT ready to go on Accutane!  IF I get any good ideas, from them or on my own, I will post again!

Hello! So glad I found this group, hope y'all check in from time to time. I used to have acne back in jr high/high school, then it was under control for about 10 years, now I'm worse than ever and don't know what to do. TIPS PLEASE! I tried proactiv just recently and it was much to severe for my skin, they have now sent me a Gentle Formula, so I'll give that a try for a while and see if it helps. Right now I am really doubting it though. I've never been to a dermatologist, but am considering giving it a try if the proactiv doesn't work. Ugh, so frustrating isn't it?!!!

Welcome!!!!  Happy to have you!  I tried Proactiv with good results, though I could only use it once a day because my skin is so reactive to everything.  I didn't know they had a gentle formula.  You'll have to let us know how it works!

I too, am at the brink of heading off to the dermatologist!  You'd think at 26 I'd be done with this!  I seem to have a strong hormonal connection.  Ever since I stopped breastfeeding my youngest 7 or 8 months ago my face has been utter chaos!

Welcome!  Feel free to vent and please share your tips!  We'll do likewise!

Hello!  I started suffering from acne around the time that I turned 25.  The condition got worse 3 years ago.  I was covered in it, and it was painful and embarrassing.  I found out that my thyroid was causing the problem.  I am clear now, but I manage it with a combination of topical antibiotics and through the exclusive use of mineral makeup without bismuth.  Bismuth, among other ingredients, is the acne sufferers worst enemy!!

I remove my makeup with Dove, wash my face with Plexion , use Differin every night, and when I get a breakout I apply a prescribed mixture of benzoyl peroxide with erythromycin.  I want to kiss and hug my doctor because I am clear now.

Proactive is the worst thing for adult acne.  Stay away from it and from the mineral cosmetics that are sold on TV.  Get your hormones checked, since the problem could be solved with a contraceptive pill, or thyroid medication.  Don't drink too much soda.  Soda causes blackheads.  Avoid excessive soy, since it tends to cause acne and slow your thyroid function.  I hope that we can share and help each other.
