For Fig. 8's, my teacher said to imagine scooping ice cream into a bowl.
For horizontals, she said imagine a clock face with the hands going counter-clockwise (or kid speak...backwards)
I'm using these trick with Autumn while she is learning her fundamentals & so far, it seems to be helping. =)
