Remember…I am using what I have…..tweak YOUR ingredients.
Primer (spray paint)
Nickel paint (spray paint)
My handy dandy never ending sample of Valspar paint
Stain (for distressing)
And a mirror.
Please squat like this in front of your mirror…..so precious.
Take off the little hooks. If you are not wanting them back on, this is where you would fill the holes with putty and sand it smooth.
I wanted them back.
Clean your mirror and frame around. I just used a damp paper towel
Spray primer on. I used primer on this project for two reasons. The wood had some finish on it and I was painting a mirror. I haven’t had ANY issues from where I chalkboard painted the glass directly on my last tutorial but I thought I would make this extra effort.
Does it impress you?
Paint the frame.
When it dries or almost is, in my case…..take your little sandy block….I use a fine block…..and distress away……Ahhhhhhh….like a good back scratch.
Important note: You will know when your paint dries by sticking your tongue to the paint….if you can taste it , it is still wet.
I was just checking to see if ANYONE actually reads this tutorial. Let’s see if ANYONE comments on that. ; ) DO NOT LICK YOUR PAINT! In case you thought I was serious…….
Gotta’ keep you alert.
I used tape here but had already taken it off. Make sure you take off the tape…while the chalkboard paint is wet! It will peel up if you wait until it is dry.
I use about three coats. It is wet in this picture, so brush strokes are visible and looks messy.
But you know what…..I sort of like the messy chalkboard look on distressed boards……is that weird?
Paint your hookies and screws….I used brushed nickel….BUT….I was using what I have. I would probably used bronzy color if I had a choice.
I also felt that since this was going to a couple with their first house….they were going to be so excited about “nickel” this and that with their new hinges…fixtures etc. that nickel would work better for them.
Put them back on.
I do want to show you this though.
Remember…..make these projects your own…….
I think…if I found a board like this again….I would do this……
Fill in the holes and use it this way.
Would totally change this mirror, wouldn’t it?
Perfect for skinny walls!
Here’s a before (with a foggy lens due to 747 degree weather…cankles NOT included)
30 minute project.
$5.00 and using stuff I had.
It’s your turn.
