Baking 101 Baking 101

Starting at home baking business

So I have some questions for you guys. First off I should say that my husband is in the military & will be retiring in about 10 years. I always wanted to open up my own little bakery/chocolate factory type shop but I won't be able to do that until my husband retires because, wherever we are at the time, we will be moving to Illinois to permanatley live. So in the meantime I was going to maybe start a little at home baking business. Cakes, cupcakes, tarts, truffles, cheesecakes, ect. Does anybody have any advice on how to start? Where should I promote? Do you think I should start by setting up a stand outside a store, give out samples and hand out business cards?

I would talk to your local business association to see what is needed to start up a business.   They may have to inspect wherever you bake the goods and wherever you sell them to make sure there is no contamination.  I am pretty sure if you dont have one already, you will need a business license.
