Homemade christmas gift ideas with instructions
Christmas is coming i know this is our birthday celebration but this is what the group is about saving money and finding ways to have a great holiday or any day.
I will add several different ideas with instructions on how to make it and if you have any that you normally do feel free to add them too.
I personally love doing little crafts and stuff with my kids.
- Candle Jars
- Materials
-
- Large saucepan
- Metal canning jar lid rim
- Coffee can
- Paraffin wax
- Crayons
- Paint stirrer
- Candlesticks (one for each jar)
- Thick widemouth glass jars
- Metal tongs
- Plastic beads
- Tacky glue
- Instructions
-
-
Set up a double boiler to melt the paraffin. Fill the bottom of the saucepan with 4 to 5 inches of water and drop in the canning jar lid rim. Then pack chunks of paraffin into the coffee can, setting it on the jar rim so that it doesn't directly touch the bottom of the pot.
-
Melt the wax over medium-high heat, carefully adding more chunks until the can is about two-thirds filled. To color the melted wax, break half of a peeled crayon into pieces. Add them to the wax and slowly mix with a paint stirrer, then turn off the heat and let the paraffin cool for about 10 minutes (this will help minimize shrinkage when the wax hardens).
-
Using a sharp knife, cut the candlesticks 1/2 inch shorter than the jar heights (adults only). Now, heat the jars by running warm water on the outsides but not the insides (this will help prevent cracking when you pour in the hot wax).
-
With metal tongs, dip the bottom of each candlestick into the melted wax and stick it to the inner jar bottom. When the candlestick ends have hardened enough to hold, carefully pour enough wax into the jars to cover the candlestick tops but not the wicks.
-
Once the candles cool completely, your kids can glue beads to the outside of the jar, arranging them in a border around the rim, perhaps, or creating a multicolor pattern all the way around.

- Cup Cakes in a Mug
- Materials
-
- One 1-pound, 2 1/4-ounce packaged cake mix -- yellow, devil's food, or spice flavor
- 16 plastic sandwich bags and twist ties
- Glaze mix (see below)
- 16 adhesive labels
- 8 large microwave-safe ceramic coffee mugs (1 1/2 cups or larger)
- 8 index cards
- Ribbon, scissors
- Instructions
-
-
For a batch of 8 cupcake gifts, empty the dry cake mix into a large bowl. Help your child place 1/2-cup portions of the cake mix into plastic sandwich bags and close them with a twist tie. Then, using the list of glaze options below, she can fill 8 more bags with 1/3 cup plus 1 1/2 teaspoons of the appropriate glaze ingredients. She should label the bags "cake mix" and "glaze mix."
-
Have your child copy the Cup Cake directions onto the index cards. She can then use ribbon to tie one cake mix and one glaze mix bag together with each card, and set them inside a mug.
-
Directions for Cup Cake: Generously spray the inside of the mug with cooking spray. Empty the contents of the cake mix bag into the cup. Add 1 egg yolk, 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil, and 1 1/2 tablespoons of water. Mix well, approximately 1 minute. Microwave for 2 minutes on full power or until cooked through. Use a pot holder to remove the cup from the microwave and allow the cake to cool for 1 minute. In a small container, combine the glaze mix ingredients with 1 to 2 teaspoons of water, mixi
-
- Variations:
- Make one batch of glaze for all eight cakes: YELLOW CAKE GLAZE: 2 2/3 cups of confectioners' sugar mixed with 1/4 cup of pink strawberry drink mix or cocoa powder. DEVIL'S FOOD CAKE GLAZE: 2 2/3 cups of confectioners' sugar mixed with 1/4 cup of cocoa powder. SPICE CAKE GLAZE: 2 2/3 cups of confectioners' sugar and 1/2 cup of chopped walnuts.
No Sew Sachet
Even kids who don't sew can help fashion a bunch of these fragrant, colorful sachets. It's a great way to use up all your fabric remnants.
- Materials
-
- Fabric scraps
- Fabric glue
- Potpourri, such as lavender flowers or balsam fir needles
- Instructions
-
-
For each sachet, place 2 matching 5-inch fabric squares back-to-back and glue the edges together on 3 sides. Spread the glue close to the edges to prevent fraying.
-
Once the glue is dry, fill the sachet with about 1/2 cup of potpourri. Then glue together the open edges and again let the glue dry.
-
Arrange the finished sachets in multicolored stacks and tie them together with a festive ribbon or yarn.
